FINDING SOLUTIONS FOR CHILDREN ON THE STREET IN SENEGAL

Sunu Keur Ndar

There are now up to 100,000 talibe children living on the street in cities in Senegal. Following initial research we discovered that a huge majority of talibe children travel via  migration paths. One of the major migration paths is from the Fouta Tooro region to Saint-Louis.  Talibe Trust has been working with communities in Fouta Tooro and with communities and organisations in Saint-Louis to help understand the reasons for talibe child migration and to work with everyone involved to encourage child safety. We aim to foster understanding, communication and engagement between all stakeholders involved in the talibe phenomenon.

Talibe Trust believes that the answers lie in inclusion and participation of everyone: the community, religious organisations, marabouts, and other non-governmental and governmental organisations. We support communication between all stakeholders to help ensure child safety.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you would like to get involved or if you would like to know any information about us at Talibe Trust. We welcome your support in any way.

Talibe Trust encourages a collaborative approach and coordinated efforts to address the problems relating to the talibe issue.
